The British Football Academy is proud to share that defender Khayalethu Mzimela has been called up to the South African Men’s Under-17 National Team, known as Amajimbos.

Mzimela, a left-footed defensive rock who is capable of operating both at left-back and centre-back, has been rewarded for his hard work and tenacity displayed throughout the 2024 season.

South Africa is set to host neighbours Lesotho in two friendly internationals on 16 and 18 August 2024, as they gear up for a return to competitive action in the COSAFA U-17 Championships scheduled for December 2024.

The 16-year-old, who is no stranger to the national team setup, having previously been called up to the under-15 national team prior to joining the BFA, thus gets a glimpse into the next steps of his international future as he looks to retain his place at the regional COSAFA showpiece later this year.

BFA head coach Siyabonga Mnganga, who has been mentoring Mzimela over the past year, lauded the efforts of the player which have now duly been rewarded.

“We are all extremely proud of Khayalethu Mzimela’s call up to the U-17 National Team. This is testament to his hard work, discipline and humility,” commented Mnganga.

“We would also like to take our hats off to the scouting team of SAFA for recognising us – even as a new academy, which proves the beautiful work the Association is doing, as well as the fairness in selections.

“Finally, we would like to say thank you to the owners of the British Football Academy, who have given us, particularly the players, the opportunity to flourish in a great environment.

“We are extremely excited about the games Amajimbos will play and we wish them all the best of luck.”
